Shirley and her husband Jim, currently reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They and their 5 children and 10 grandchildren enjoy family life and their ongoing involvement in the future of Shirley’s endeavors in her Gospel Music Ministry. Shirley sang with her father, Roy Carter, and their family’s mixed harmony quartet, the award winning and highly acclaimed Chuck Wagon Gang. Roy, SGMA Hall of Famer, was the only child of nine, to graduate from college, Abilene Christian, where he became a minister of the gospel, and soon joined his dad, D.P. Carter (First inducted into the SGMA Hall of Fame, 1984), in the family singing ministry.
Shirley received vocal instruction earlier in her career in Dallas. She seeks to sing and deliver unique and popular sounds, both familiar and new, to Christian and non-Christian listening audiences alike. Her desire is to reach anyone in attendance with a sound that is familiar and unique to them, so as to capture and win their hearts for Jesus Christ.
Shirley wrote her first song at the age of 8 which became the title song on an album. The focus in her life is in a career and ministry based on the vocal gift with which the Lord has blessed her. She is a very capable vocalist and sings with confidence and conviction from the heart. She has been in the industry all her life and understands all aspects of it and is willing to help in any area needed. Her husband Jim, is an l attorney amd is very supportive of her efforts.
Shirley has performed at the Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, numerous churches, festivals, political rallies, events including her many performances over the years as member of the Chuck Wagon Gang. The Gang has performed in many well known
venues including The Grand Ole Opry, The Ralph Emory Show, both in Nashville, and Carnegie Hall in New York.
Shirley enjoys a variety of interests in addition to her singing and writing. She is a professional seamstress who also enjoys doll repair/sewing, antique collecting, is a portraiture and western artist, sailing, and is a certified first assistant in surgery. She is also co founder and was owner in several medical organizations and has served at the regional, director and administrative levels for the largest national hospital organizations based in Nashville and Dallas.
