Shirley Carter is third generation to a rich heritage of her famous Carter family roots in the Chuck Wagon Gang. Her singing began at the age of three and by age eight, her writing got her the title song of the family group’s album “Hallelujah”. Later she joined her father, Roy Carter, bass and leader in the family group. They're career took them to the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City, Hollywood Bowl, Gator Bowl, Daytona International Speedway and numerous appearances on The Grand Ole Opry. They have been honored with numerous distinctions, some of which are Gospel Artist and/or Group of the Year by Music City News five years in a row, Kentucky Colonels, SGMA Hall of Fame, GMA Hall of Fame, SESAC Lifetime Achievement Awards, Living Legends, Marvin Norcross Award (Roy), Grammy Nominations and numerous gold records. They were also honored by the Smithsonian Institute for their recording of the Albert Brumley song “Jesus Hold My Hand” as representative of classic country music of the 1930’s era.

Today, through Shirley's inspirational music, those same roots are alive but being broadened to include a wider range of gospel musical styles in an effort to reach more for His calling. With this pedigree engraved on her heart, Shirley’s desire to create "Heavenly" sounds with a blend of "southern gospel" and an array of genres, was designed to appeal to everyone from traditional to modern, country, bluegrass, jazz and blues, and has been achieved. This blended style has made Shirley one of the most unique gospel sounds in Christian music today. Her latest album scheduled for release in early 2016, will demonstrate that gospel style. Previously on her album with Carter Crossing, “Out of the Box and Into His Grace”, the group spread joy to it’s listeners and Shirley's hopes that her solo future efforts will meet or exceed it’s spirit, dedication and quality workmanship. Shirley continues to deliver the message in song everywhere from churches to conventions, TV shows, gospel singings, revivals, camps, restaurants, festivals and radio.
